To most people taking a trip to the grocery store is no big deal. This was not the case with my trip to the store today, my friends. You see, I work in an affluent part of town which BOARDERS the Ghetto. I was watching the news one morning and they mentioned the specific cross streets that I work on as the area of town that has the highest crime rate in Las Vegas. That made me rest easier at night ;o) I try not to go to the store when I am here at work, but it's nice to go get some frozen things (including ice cream) and bring them into the office once in a while. That was the reason for today's journey across the border. The following trip inspired this list: YOU KNOW YOU ARE SHOPPING IN THE GHETTO WHEN... 1. An elderly female cat calls you from her window as she slowly drives by. 2. Not one, but two armed guards stand just inside the doors of the grocery store. 3. People all around you are eyeing you, wondering if you somehow took a wrong turn.
4. Once passed the two armed guards you find yourself walking through a metal detector (did I mention that this was a trip to the store...and not the airport?!?!?) 5. You hear someone yelling at the meat counter "hey, is anyone back there? I can see you..." 6. (This one is sad)... Two homeless men check out behind you, fighting about which one will be buying the charcoal to roast their hot dogs over. 7. You wonder if you need to ask one of the armed guards to walk you to your car. All this for just a taste of ice cream.
