HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES
High school...what an interesting time for me. It was a completely random phase of my life and not something I talk about very often. Back then I was still trying to find my way out of my cocoon. I was completely INNOCENT and very naive (still am a bit). But... I was always looking for good clean fun with some fantastic ladies.
SIDE NOTE: I was showing my high school scrapbook to someone a while back and the feedback I got was "wow, you are right... those were rough years for you! Good thing you are blossoming now though..." Sweet? Yes. Brutally honest? Totally. (So, I'd post a picture, but I wouldn't want to scare anyone).
There was a group of 9 of us who came together merely because we didn't fit into any specific click and I don't think we really wanted to either. We had each other but we also had our feet in other circles. We decided to call our gang THE HOTS. Each of us were so unique and so different from one another, yet somehow we magically became friends. (I would like to think this group of friends gave me a good foundation for serving in the church with people from all walks of life.)
Although our intentions were good, we haven't completed our efforts to stay in touch very well over the past years. But... dear Angie sent an email out to the group inviting us all to communicate more. I had to laugh at some of the memories people have been sharing over the past week. We were silly girls, back then, just looking for something not illegal or immoral to fill our time. We were often up to some of the following "time occupying" activities (and I quote from different emails from THE HOTS - as they come in. We are just starting to hear back):
From Angie: "How many of you were part of the karaoke Oprah shows in Jeni's back room? Was that just me and Jeni? I hope not, because that was good times. "
From Wendy: "I still feel bad about the toilet paper incident with Sean Burgeson, and I feel a little bit bad about the soap in the fountain, but that was just funny when the bubbles were HUGE. I’ll never forget you gals and the fun times we had. Whenever I hear the faith hill song, "This Kiss", I always think of Jeni and her EFY boyfriend that we drove up to Logan to see! We were crazy."
From Carolina: "I'm with Angie-we were all so different, yet managed to be friends. I loved that we had such a tight group of friends. I think High School could have been quite different without you guys."
From Jeni: I would like to add a few memories of my own from these crazy years- pushing the fully functional Jeep Waggoner down the street so guys would stop and help us (we'd say it ran out of gas), the weekend stays at Heidi's cabin in Park City, the fun group dates we'd go on, Sunday night get-togethers at my house, Mary Kay parties at Karly's house, sleepovers at Kim's house, craft time at Heidi's house, Internet surfing at Carolina's house (that was the FIRST place I ever used the Internet), Chris Roberts (he was practically one of us), mo-ped riding, toilet papering Jeff's house on a regular basis, running away from the cops at Colleen's house (we were innocent), beauty pageants (real and fake), defending Lindsey T. from the big poly girls that tried to shove her in a locker, lunch field trips to Speedy Mart or Wendy's (with all 9 of us shoved in one vehicle), Liesel's mashed up mini van that gained a dent a week, backyard movies, camping under the stars, boating in Idaho (which gave me the BIGGEST bruise I've ever formed on my body), playing barbies at Tara's house (yes, in high school... that Tara...), morningside's at the church across the street from my house, me basically proposing to Steve Young via chocolate-chip cookies, and learning a VERY important "life skill" on our senior trip to St. George (please tell me you guys remember what you taught me).
Awe, the days!
